Abstract

This study analyzes the effects of incorporating glass fiber into asphalt mixtures. Two hot asphalt mix designs were considered, with the first design to determine the optimal percentage of asphalt cement PEN 60/70 to be used and the second design to determine an optimal hot asphalt mix with the incorporation of glass fiber in percentages of 3.00%, 4.00%, 5.00% and 6.00%. The sample consisted of 24 specimens that were evaluated through flow, stability, and density tests using the Marshall test. Likewise, the quality of the fine and coarse aggregates was verified through 17 tests, all in compliance with MTC and ASTM regulations. It is concluded that the optimal percentage of asphalt cement PEN 60/70 is 6.50% and presenting stable values within regulatory ranges with the addition of an optimal percentage of glass fiber of 4%. This research is contributing to the sustainable development goal 'Sustainable Cities and Communications' (SDG 11), through the design of efficient roads, which would improve the public transport system.
